Mold; the word conjures up something dark, dank, creeping, and smelly. Nobody wants mold in their homes, but sometimes it just shows up. If you call mold removal specialists, they have an arsenal of mold removal options at their disposal. Depending on the severity and toxicity of the mold, they may apply one or more of the following approaches.

Surface Level Mold: Bleach

Once it has been verified that the visible mold in small patches is just at the surface level and does not go deeper into the walls or ceilings. bleach will kill it. You use bleach on shower curtains for mold and mildew, so here is another area where this approach comes in handy. If the mold is on a porous material, bleach will kill the surface material, but vinegar will seep in and kill mold at the roots. Only your mold remediation and mold removal specialists can ascertain how deep the mold goes and whether or not it is growing out of a porous material.

Deeper Mold Growth: Commercial Grade Mold Killers

Commercial grade mold killers are sprayed on surfaces, but they sink right through anything on which the mold is growing. They get down deeper and eliminate the spores at the roots and where the roots are hiding. They can get to mold spores that have spread out but not taken root yet. These chemicals kill all the mold you can see, and all the mold you cannot see yet.

Deepest Mold Growth: Cutting It Out

Sometimes the mold problem is so bad that it goes behind walls and beyond ceilings into the darkest places mold can creep. Perhaps that is why this fungi is so creepy. If the mold is this bad, the only real course of action is to seal off the area to prevent mold spores from becoming airborne while the entire section of plaster and drywall is cut out and disposed of.

If the mold goes even deeper into the wood of your home, then the team has to decide if they can kill what remains, or cut it out like the "disease" it is. If they choose the latter, they have to subcontract the reconstruction of this area of your house out to a construction contractor. The estimate for that much work will be included in their initial report on the severity of the mold and the approaches the mold remediation team intends to take.
